“No” al pomodoro pelato di Napoli

Coldiretti Puglia al fianco della Regione contro il ‘no’ secco alla richiesta di riconoscimento IGP del pomodoro pelato di Napoli. E’ quanto afferma Coldiretti Puglia che ribadisce la contrarietà senza se e senza ma al reiterato tentativo di ottenere il riconoscimento comunitario che non rappresenta la realtà produttiva del pomodoro, ma solo della trasformazione.

“Bisogna uscire dalla grande ambiguità di commercializzare un prodotto che può fregiarsi di un marchio comunitario così fortemente distintivo, senza che ci sia alcun obbligo di utilizzare i prodotti agricoli del territorio al quale la indicazione si ispira. Il 40 percento del pomodoro italiano viene proprio dalla Capitanata, che da sola produce il 90% del pomodoro lungo. La provincia di Foggia – dichiara presidente di Coldiretti Puglia, Savino Muraglia – è leader nel comparto con 3.500 produttori di pomodoro che coltivano mediamente una superficie di 32 mila ettari, per una produzione di 22 milioni di quintali ed una P.L.V. (Produzione Lorda Vendibile) di quasi 175.000.000 euro”.

“Un bacino produttivo straordinario se confrontato al resto d’Italia con i suoi 55 milioni di quintali di produzione e i 95mila ettari di superficie investita, una realtà che va salvaguardata e promossa, perché rappresentata da imprese agricole e agroalimentari pugliesi che operano con grande professionalità e in assoluta trasparenza”, tuona il delegato confederale di Coldiretti Foggia, Pietro Piccioni.

E’ a tutti nota la posizione di Coldiretti Puglia sull’importanza dell’origine del prodotto agricolo alla base dei cibi trasformati che arrivano sulle tavole dei consumatori, per cui numerose sono state le battaglie per arrivare all’etichettatura certa dell’origine dei prodotti agroalimentari.

D.O.P. e I.G.P. sono marchi europei che identificano – spiega Coldiretti Puglia – prodotti che possiedono caratteristiche peculiari, legate da origini storiche al determinato territorio indicato nella denominazione, e dalla accurata e precisa applicazione di un disciplinare di produzione. Di scelta del Ministero delle Politiche Agricole l’area delimitata e la nomenclatura, basate su comprovata ricostruzione storica che i consorzi di valorizzazione devono documentare.

Per i prodotti DOP è previsto che tutto il processo produttivo avvenga nell’area delimitata dal disciplinare di produzione, trasformazione e confezionamento inclusi, mentre per le produzioni IGP, invece, non esistono gli stessi vincoli – conclude Coldiretti Puglia – in particolare nessun obbligo di utilizzare i prodotti agricoli del territorio al quale la IGP si ispira.
