Il presidente della Regione Puglia Michele Emiliano e l’assessore allo Sport Raffaele Piemontese sono felici e orgogliosi dei risultati degli atleti pugliesi alle Olimpiadi di Tokyo: Vito Dell’Aquila, oro nel taekwondo; Massimo Stano, oro nella marcia 20 km; Antonella Palmisano, oro nella marcia 20 km; Luigi Samele, doppio argento nella sciabola (individuale e a squadre).

“Questo è il frutto – dichiarano Emiliano e Piemontese – di tanti anni di lavoro delle società sportive cui la Regione Puglia ha contribuito con importanti risorse e con progetti innovativi per aiutare lo sport di base e quello scolastico, sostenendo le eccellenze e finanziando l’impiantistica sportiva con oltre 400 interventi negli ultimi 4 anni. Ma soprattutto la Regione ha promosso e sostenuto grandi eventi fra cui i campionati europei di taekwondo a Bari in cui il nostro Vito Dell’Aquila ha conquistato la qualificazione olimpica insieme al titolo europeo. Ricordiamo anche che Elisa Longo Borghini (medaglia di bronzo olimpica) ha conquistato la qualifica proprio in Puglia durante i campionati italiani di ciclismo da noi organizzati in Valle d’Itria, così come i campionati europei di scherma a Foggia 2 anni fa e i campionati italiani di atletica leggera a Molfetta lo scorso mese di marzo. Insomma la Regione Puglia è vicina alle società sportive ed ai Comuni ed è orgogliosa dei risultati raggiunti anche perché con le sue risorse, mai così alte in precedenza, promuove lo sport come strumento formativo per il benessere e la salute ma anche come rilancio del territorio e del turismo. La Puglia è inoltre l’unica regione italiana che ha un piano di sviluppo per l’impiantistica sportiva che si integra con il programma di promozione degli sport ambientali e degli sport del mare e con il piano regionale delle ciclovie. Ricordiamo che a Taranto si svolgeranno i Giochi del Mediterraneo del 2026, che abbiamo voluto fortemente come Regione Puglia, mentre il prossimo anno ospiteremo sul Gargano i campionati mondiali di Orienteering.

Attendiamo il ritorno a casa dei nostri atleti per festeggiarli come meritano”.
